I fully support the 2016 platform of the West Virginia Democratic Party. In particular, I take a strong stand for four priorities:
Fight for Children & Working Families
For too many years, families have struggled with stagnant wages, rising costs and service cuts that hurt seniors, veterans, folks with disabilities, and especially children.
My first consideration in any legislative decision will be its potential impact on the health, safety and well-being of
ALL West Virginia's children.
Stop the Exodus of our Young Adults
Poverty wages, often combined with crushing student debt, force too many of our most promising young adults to leave West Virginia.
We must grow and diversify our economy to keep our young adults here and productive. We must strengthen education from pre-K to post-secondary. And we must provide a living wage for those who provide vital human services.
Fully Address the Drug Crisis
We all must be part of the solution to this tragic and complex public health epidemic. The Legislature must lead the way NOW to secure resources, fight this scourge and heal our communities!
I will persistently advocate for the full array of solutions to effectively treat and prevent opioid addiction, and to put the "merchants of death" out of businesses at every level.
End the State Tax on Social Security Benefits
West Virginia remains one of only 13 states taxing seniors'
Social Security benefits.
Our state needs to treasure its senior citizens, not punish them.
I am running as an advocate for our senior citizens and will work to eliminate the unfair state income tax on Social Security.
